| isimangaliso birding route is a new concept in the birding industry of the Elephant Coast and the Greater St. Lucia wetlands park. The idea is to promote the
construction of
bird hides
at favorable locations within the rural areas adjacent to the parks and then charge a fee for the use of the facilities in much the same way as we all now pay a gate fee to enter
a game reserve.
This will promote the protection of birds and other smaller creatures like squirrels, mongoose, warthogs and snakes, as these will then have a commercial value to the land
owner as a tourist
attraction, and those who have no wildlife on their properties will receive no income from tourists and members of the birding community for the use of their facilities. |
isimangaliso birding route is a rural community development project aimed at introducing birding related tourism to those poor communities on the outskirts of the
Greater St. Lucia wetlands park who have been marginalized and economically devastated by the serious drop in South African Tourists to the Elephant Coast since the 4X4 Ban which prohibits the use of
motor vehicles on the entire South African Coast Line unless certain unreasonable requirements have been met. |
