Isimangaliso Route is a non profit organization set up to cater for the birding activities of tourists within the Elephant Coast and the rural areas surrounding the Greater St. Lucia wetlands park which are not in the formal park regions.

The basic aim is to establish numerous hides which are all well cared for and managed by local residents, and charge the visitor a small fee for making use of the hides or and facilities such as walking trails. This will generate an income for the participants and have the added value as a positive spin off that the birds and other creatures will be protected by the locals as they will now have an economic value to the hide owner / operator.

Nyalazi Birding Co-op will be one of the first co-ops put in place by Isimangaliso Birding Route to cater for the birding communities who visit the Isimangaliso wetlands park.
